Guides & Tips

How to Edit an Existing GIF Online

  • 1. Upload Your GIF File

Drag and drop any .gif file onto the upload area. The tool will automatically split it into individual frames displayed as thumbnails — no extra software needed.

  • 2. Delete or Reorder Frames

Click the remove icon on any thumbnail to delete unwanted frames. Drag thumbnails to rearrange the sequence. This is useful for cutting out repeated or irrelevant frames from a downloaded GIF.

  • 3. Set Per-Frame Delay

Click any frame thumbnail to set its individual display time in milliseconds. Unlike global-speed tools, you can make one frame linger for 1s while the rest play at 0.08s — ideal for tutorial GIFs where one step needs more reading time.

  • 4. Export and Download

Click Create GIF. Your edited file downloads immediately with no watermark. The entire process happens in your browser — your GIF is never uploaded to any server.

How to Reverse a GIF Online

  • 1. Upload Your Source

Upload a GIF file, an image sequence (JPG, PNG, WebP), or a video clip (MP4, MOV, WebM). All three input types support reverse playback.

  • 2. Enable Reverse

Toggle the Reverse switch in the settings panel before generating.

  • 3. Create and Download

Click Create GIF — the animation will play in the opposite direction. No watermark is added at any point.

  • Tip: Boomerang Loop

To create a seamless boomerang effect (forward then backward), upload your frames twice — once in normal order, then again in reverse order. The GIF will play through forward and backward in a single loop.

How to Add Crossfade Transitions to a GIF

  • 1. Upload Your Image Sequence

Upload your JPG, PNG, or WebP images. Arrange them in the correct order by dragging thumbnails.

  • 2. Enable Crossfade

Toggle the Crossfade option. You can adjust the transition duration in milliseconds — 200–400ms works well for most slideshows. Transition frames are generated automatically between each of your original frames.

  • 3. Generate and Download

Click Create GIF. The output will have smooth fade transitions between every frame — no abrupt cuts.

  • Tip: Matching Frame Sizes

Crossfade works best when all frames are the same dimensions. If your images are different sizes, standardize them first. Use our Bulk Image Cropper to resize all frames to the same size in one step.

Tips for Smaller GIF File Size

  • 1. Reduce the output width — halving the width reduces file size by roughly 75%. Need to compress an existing GIF for Discord?
  • 2. Increase the frame delay — a delay of 0.15s instead of 0.05s can cut file size in half with minimal visual impact.
  • 3. Trim unnecessary frames — delete any frames that don't add to the animation.
  • 4. For Discord, aim for under 8MB (free accounts) or 50MB (Nitro). Use the resize option to hit this target.
